THREE-DAY VIBRANT STILL LIFE
TWO-DAY CLOTHED FIGURE
"Pastel as Both a Wet and Dry Medium"
With Greg Biolchini, PSA, Master

WORKSHOP OUTLINE
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM    Lunch      1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

This highly rated, stimulating workshop is designed to accommodate12 painters with a basic degree of drawing ability. Participants can expect to learn this effective and direct approach to still life painting and clothed figure in pastel; focusing on pastel as both a dry and wet medium.
THE FIRST THREE DAYS will begin with a two-hour still life demonstration focusing on wet and dry techniques. Participants are encouraged to ask question at all times, including during the demonstrations. After the daily demonstrations, the group will paint from one of several still lifes for the remainder of each day. During this time, Greg will go to each person offering suggestions and addressing their individual needs.
THE FOURTH DAY will begin with a two-hour clothed figure demonstration showing how Greg incorporates a realistic figure into a loose, abstract pastel wash. For the rest of each day, everyone will paint from the model. Greg will once again go to each person with individual instruction.
THE FIFTH DAY Greg will put finishing touches on his portrait demonstration from the fourth day. After which, he will go to each individual offering instruction as they work toward completing their paintings.
OPEN CRITIQUE will be held during the last two hours on the last day.

RECOMMENDED MATERIALS LIST
PASTEL WET AND DRY

Instructor: Greg Biolchini, PSA, Master

I recommend a complete set of Nu-Pastels (96 sticks) in addition to other softer pastel sets for wet and dry pastel techniques. For your convenience, do not bring excessively large sets of pastels. Around 75 to 100 additional sticks are good. Nu-Pastels full sets can be purchased for about $100 at your local art supply store, or for about $60 online from jerrysartarama.com, (800-827-8478,) during their periodic sales.
SUPPLIES:

  1. Portable easel (ask your organization if they provide easels, if not, bring one.)
  2. Nu-pastels full set of 96 sticks and softer sets of your choice, under 100 sticks
(Unison, Mt. Vision or Great American are best for wet and dry technique.)
  3. Drawing board and masking tape.
  4. Wallis White Museum Sanded Pastel Paper 12" X 18".
  5. Isopropyl (Rubbing) alcohol (70%) and wide-mouth coffee can or jar.
  6. 1 l/2 "synthetic watercolor wash brush will be made available for classroom use.
  7. Absorbent paper towels. (Viva.)
  8. Dry wall sanding screen. (From Ace Hardware or Home Depot.)

NOTE: If you already have pastels of any brand, you may use what you have, rather than buying extra pastels.
