Still Life in Pastel

The 2 day pastel workshop will include lecture and demonstration each morning, followed by a student painting sessions with a critique at each student’s individual easel in the afternoon. Judy will speak on relevant topics over the duration of the workshop. Topics of discussion will include the history of pastel and modern materials, types of pastels and work surfaces. Judy will demonstrate various strokes and how to apply them. She will discuss pastel as a drawing and a painting medium. Other topics include: rendering a 3 dimensional object on a 2 dimensional surface; controlling color; technical skills; the care, framing and shipping of pastel paintings; and how to make your painting a work of art.

Judith stresses that the workshop attendees paint from life. Painting from photos is not a skill that she will cover in the workshop.
